Australia Day 2012 - Awardees

Announcement of Horsham Rural City Council Australia Day Awards

Mayor Cr. Mandi Stewart  is extremely please to announce the successful nominees of the 2012 Australia Day Awards.

                                                       


Citizen Award - Agnes Seater

Agnes has been an outstanding volunteer and is highly regarded for her significant involvement on numerous committees serving the Horsham region. Agnes is extremely dedicated and committeed to all tasks that she undertakes. member of wimmera Hospice Care Auxiliary for over 20 years.

Agnes active member and Pastoral Carer of the Uniting Church, community member an office bearer for Horsham Pony Club, Horsham High School, Horsham Girl Guides and Brownies, Horsham Golf Club and Horsham Agricultural and pastoral Society.

Agnes is a worthy recipient of the year for 2012 Citizen of the Year Award.

 

Young Citizen Award - Jennifer van Veldhuisen

Jennifer is an outstanding role model for students academically and within the theatre as well as representing Horsham within the State of Victoria, nationally and internationally.

Jennifer has extensive knowledge of Australian History and was awarded the Spirit of Anzac prize in 2010.

Jennifer participated in the 2012 National Youth Science Forum, appointed Vice Captain of St. Brigids College for 2012. Awardee of a Melbourne Kwong Lee Dow scholarship in 2010, participant in Melbourne University Siemens Science experience in 2010,  State finalist Legacy Public Speaking award in 2008 and a leading performer in the St. Brigids college musicals in 2011, 2010 and 2009.

Jennifer is a remarkeable young leader and worthy of the Young Citizen Awards for 2012.


Community Event of the Year Award  - Green Lake Action Group

The Green Lake Action Group played a vital role in getting Green Lake filled after being empty for many years, following a series of media campaigns along with countless meetings.

To celebrate the fill of Green lake a major free public event was held. Lights On Green, a "SkyArt" firework display was held on Friday, 18th March 2011, the event attracting over 2000 people.

Lights On Green was a memorable occasion celebrating the return of a most popular recreational lake an a gateway feature to the entry of Horsham.

Green Lake Action Group is a very worthy recipient of the Community Event of the Year Award.

 

2013 AUSTRALIA DAY ACTIVITIES FOR  HORSHAM

Whether you're a local, an interstate traveller or visiting from abroad, you will enjoy Australia Day celebrations in the Wimmera. Head to Sawyer Park, on the banks of the Wimmera River on Saturday January 26 to take part in the Horsham festivities.

Horsham Rural City Council, with the support of Combined Service Clubs of Horsham, will provide a free barbecue breakfast including bacon, eggs and orange juice, from 7.15am.The official ceremony will commence at 8.00am

A member of the Horsham Christian Ministers Association will deliver the Australia Day prayer and Horsham Girl Guides and Scouts will raise the Australian flag.

Entertainment sing the National Anthem, Sing Australia Choir, Horsham Brass Band and Horsham Pipe Band. The Australia Day Ambassador is to be appointed.

Horsham Rural City Council will also present Australia Day, Citizen, Young Citizen and Community Event of the Year Awards.

Brimpaen - Brimpaen Hall
Country breakfast from 8am and official ceremony at 9am. Will feature guest speaker and flag-raising ceremony.

Natimuk - In front of Council Office
From 10.30 am Natimuk Brass Band, guest speaker,  flag-raising ceremony and morning tea.

Dadswells Bridge - Dadswells Bridge Hall
At 11am Flag raising ceremony, guest speaker an morning tea.

Residents can nominate a person or a community event/festival they believe worthy of recognition, within the three categories, citizen, young citizen and community event awards.
