Announcement of Horsham Rural City Council Australia Day Awards
Mayor Cr. Michael Ryans is extremely please to announce the successful nominees of the 2010 Australia Day Awards.

Citizen Award - Mr. Gary Aitken
Mr. Gary Aitken is highly regarded for his significant involvement on various projects to the wider community as an environmentalist and an active volunteer member in all matters involving the Wimmera River, Native Plants and the Wimmera Biolink.
Gary, is passionate about the environment and has overseen the planting of many thousands of trees, the construction and maintenance of walking tracks, the installation of seats, maintenance of bridges and walkways, especially the Yanga Track along the Wimmera River.
Young Citizen Award - Mrs. Sarah McLean
Mrs. Sarah McLean, is active in the Horsham community providing outstanding volunteer contributions in a participating role for the Wimmera Uniting Care Wawkenings Festival. Sarah, has undertaken an integral role in the delivering of the festival, linking businesses and community and acting as guide and mentor for people with disabilities.
Community Event of the Year Award - 50 Years of Wimmera Rock
"50 Years of Wimmera Rock" coincided with the 30th Anniversary of Kannamaroo, Festival. A free and not for profit event 50 Years of Wimmera Rock was established as one of the biggest musical events for 2009 bringing together over 40 reformed local an regioanl bands that have entertained the Wimmera and region over the last 50 years. Musicians travelled from around Australia and overseas to be re-united with their former musical groups from days gone by.
50 Years of Wimmera Rock was the brain child of Mr. Lynton Brown. With nearly two years in the making with the support of many volunteers behind the scene, were able to creata an event for all to remember.
2011 AUSTRALIA DAY ACTIVITIES FOR HORSHAM
Whether you're a local, an interstate traveller or visiting from abroad, you will enjoy Australia Day celebrations in the Wimmera. Head to Sawyer Park, on the banks of the Wimmera River on Wednesday January 26 to take part in the Horsham festivities.
Horsham Rural City Council, with the support of Combined Service Clubs of Horsham, will provide a free barbecue breakfast including bacon, eggs and orange juice, from 7.15am.
Master of Ceremonies, Horsham Rural City Council Chief Executive Officer Mr. Kerryn Shade will officially open the ceremony at 8am.
A member of the Horsham Christian Ministers Association will deliver the Australia Day prayer and Horsham Girl Guides and Scouts will raise the Australian flag.
Entertainment sing the National Anthem, Sing Australia Choir, Horsham Brass Band and Horsham Pipe Band will also entertain and Mr. Don Mitchell will present an Australian narration.
Australia Day Ambassadors to be announced.
Horsham Rural City Council will also present Australia Day, Citizen, Young Citizen and Community Event of the Year Awards.
Other Australia Day celebrations in Horsham Rural City Council will include:
Brimpaen - Brimpaen Hall
Country breakfast from 8am and official ceremony at 9am. Will feature guest speaker and flag-raising ceremony.
Natimuk - In front of Council Office
Natimuk Brass Band, guest speaker, flag-raising ceremony and morning tea.
Dadswells Bridge - Dadswells Bridge Hall
Flag raising ceremony, guest speaker an morning tea.
